Our food bank is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from noon until 5:00 p.m. No appointment is needed, just please bring bags with you for taking your groceries home. If you would like to shop for your own groceries, please arrive by 4:30 p.m.to allow time for that. If you arrive after 4:30 p.m., we will pre-pack your groceries which will give us time to serve more people before we close for the evening. If you are unable to visit when we’re open because of your work schedule or due to an emergency, please call our office at 360-876-4089 and ask to speak with a supervisor or contact us via the “Contact Us” link at the top of our page in advance and we’d be happy to make other arrangements to ensure that you can receive the services you need.
Our primary service area is the region that the South Kitsap School District provides service to but we can also assist you if you live outside of South Kitsap. There is a good chance though that there may be a food bank closer in proximity to you, making visiting more convenient so please call our office and we can provide you with the name and phone number of a food bank near you.
Our main food basket program is need-based and if you are a South Kitsap resident in need of food to feed yourself or your family, we are here to serve you. People can be working, have an income and still not be able to afford the groceries they need. We understand that and are here to help to the very best of our abilities and without judgment.
It is our policy to have 2 food baskets available to every household each month. A food basket is a cart full of groceries and varies depending on the number of people living in the household. Food baskets are estimated to provide between 3-5 days’ worth of emergency meals and consist of dairy and meat products, fresh produce, non-perishable canned and boxed food items, bread and pastry products and frozen foods. Clients also can make requests of non-food items with each visit to go with their baskets. These non-food items can be baby diapers, pet food, feminine hygiene products, laundry soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, deoderant etc. Please ask if there is something you need and if we have it in stock, we will include it with your basket.
In addition to our regular food baskets, we also offer another supplemental food program for those who qualify financially. These government commodity groceries are available three times each month and help to supplement the food that our regular baskets provide. This is a self-declaring program, clients will look at a chart and determine if they qualify based on their household income. Most of our clients do qualify for this program as well.

The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) provides nutrition to income eligible seniors. Eligible senior applicants may receive up to $80 on a debit card annually to be used at approved farmers markets. Our agency can provide the applications for this nutrition program when they are available each spring.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP or sometimes referred to as food stamps) is a federal nutrition program design to supplement the food budget of families in need so they can purchase healthy food and move towards self-sufficiency. SNAP can help you purchase the foods you need to help make the food we can provide through our food bank go even further. You can receive both SNAP and utilize a food bank or other nutrition programs. They are designed to work together to help individuals and families better meet their needs..
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) provides federal grants to states for supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding postpartum women. It also provides for infants and children up to age five who are determined to be at nutritional risk.
First Lutheran Church of Port Orchard serves free, family-style dinners at 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays of the last two weeks of each month.
